Editorial Policy

Last updated: 16 October 2026

This page sets out how homemadefood.app decides what to publish, how claims are checked before they appear, and what happens when something on the site turns out to be wrong. It applies to every article, table and explainer published under the site’s name, including material written by Sophie Brown and credited to /author/spinsqueen/.

How topics are chosen

Topic selection starts from questions readers actually send, and from gaps the site notices in its own coverage. When a game format, tournament rule or bonus condition changes, the relevant page is reviewed and either updated or retired. Sophie Brown spent years as a behavioural-research assistant in a university psychology lab coding survey data on gambling habits, and that background shapes which subjects get attention. Engagement features such as variable-ratio reinforcement, near-miss effects and loss-chasing are treated as mechanics of game design that can be described and measured, which means they are covered as design questions and not as moral lessons about the people who play.

Coverage of tournament structure, entry mechanics and payout rules follows the same logic. A page is only commissioned when the underlying rules can be read in full and cited, because a tournament description that omits entry conditions or payout thresholds is of little use to anyone trying to understand what they are joining.

How claims are checked

The checking method is the one Sophie Brown used in survey research. A claim is written down in its narrowest defensible form, the source that supports it is recorded next to it, and the claim is then tested against that source before publication. Where a number cannot be traced to a named source, it does not appear. Where a trend is described, the description names the source it comes from, and if no source can be named the trend is left out entirely.

This produces a deliberately narrow kind of writing. A page may state what a set of published rules says about payout timing, and it may state what a named source reports about participation patterns, but it will not blend the two into a general impression of how players behave. Readers who want the reasoning behind a specific figure can request it through the contact route described on /contact-eeat/.

Sources the site relies on

Sources fall into three groups, and each is treated differently.

  • Primary rules and terms published by the parties that set them, used for anything describing entry conditions, payout rules or tournament structure.
  • Named published research or reporting, used only where the author and outlet can be identified and the claim can be traced back to the original text.
  • Support and information services, cited where a page touches on harm reduction or where a reader may want to speak to someone.

Where a page discusses risk, it may point to ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600 or connexontario.ca, the Responsible Gambling Council Canada at responsiblegambling.org, or PlaySmart at playsmart.ca. These services are listed for reference and the site does not speak for them.

Independence from operators

Editorial decisions are made separately from any commercial arrangement. Some outbound links on the site are commercial, and the way those links work is described in full on the Affiliate Disclosure page. A commercial link does not determine whether a topic is covered, what a page concludes, or how a claim is worded. Where a page cannot be written to the standard described above because the necessary rules are not published, the page is not published.

When pages are reviewed

Every page is reviewed at least once a year as an intent, and sooner when the terms it describes change. A change in entry mechanics, payout rules or tournament structure triggers a review of any page that depends on those terms. Reviews are logged internally with the date and the reason, and the visible date at the top of a page changes when the substance of the page changes.

Corrections

Errors are reported through the route listed on /contact-eeat/. A report should identify the page and the specific statement that appears to be wrong, and where possible the source that contradicts it. Reports are read by Sophie Brown, who also handles the correction itself.

When a report is upheld, the page is amended and a correction note is added at the foot of the page describing what changed. The note is marked with an updated date so that readers can see the page has been revised and when. Where a statement cannot be supported, it is removed and the removal is noted in the same way. Where a report is not upheld, the reasoning is recorded internally and the page is left as published.

Correction
A change to a published statement that was inaccurate when it was written.
Update
A change that reflects new terms, new rules or newly published information.
Removal
Deletion of a statement that cannot be supported by a traceable source.

What the site does not claim

The site does not claim to test games, to hold operator accounts on a reader’s behalf, or to verify the internal behaviour of any platform. It does not claim that a described mechanic predicts what any individual player will do. It does not offer advice on whether to play, and it does not present itself as a substitute for the support services listed above.

Limits of this page: this policy describes editorial practice at homemadefood.app and cannot speak for any other site, operator or service, and it does not cover the terms that apply to any third party a reader may visit from a link here.
